About BurnoutCost.com

An independent reference for the cost of workplace burnout: the productivity loss, presenteeism, absence, attrition and replacement-hiring costs that follow when teams are systematically over-stretched. Operated by Digital Signet, founded by Oliver Wakefield-Smith.

Why this site exists

Workplace burnout cost is widely quoted as a soundbite (often a Gallup or WHO figure) but rarely with the underlying assumptions. Most published guidance is from wellness-tech vendors pitching mental-health platforms or HR consultancies pitching engagement programmes. This site exists to publish defensible cost-of-burnout bands by industry and team-size with named-source attribution, and a calculator that translates organisation size and burnout-rate signal into a working annual cost figure.

About Digital Signet

This site is operated by Digital Signet, an independent AI-development studio founded by Oliver Wakefield-Smith. It is part of a portfolio of consumer cost-reference and calculator sites we run as a live R&D lab for our Signet methodology, an autonomous AI development team that ships real software at scale.

Digital Signet does not sell wellness platforms, does not act as an EAP (Employee Assistance Programme) provider, does not run an HR or wellbeing consultancy, and does not accept paid placements from any vendor in the workplace-wellness space. Editorial direction is set by Oliver. Drafts are produced via Digital Signet's autonomous AI development methodology and reviewed against the editorial framework before publication.

Editorial principles

  • Source pattern. Built on public reference material across the relevant publisher landscape.
  • No paid placements. Does not sell wellness platforms, does not act as an EAP (Employee Assistance Programme) provider, does not run an HR or wellbeing consultancy, and does not accept paid placements from any vendor in the workplace-wellness space. Independent of every named third party in the relevant space.
  • Math is documented inline. Where the site has a calculator, inputs and assumptions are visible on the calculator page. Nothing is hidden behind opaque scoring.
  • Update only when underlying reality changes. Triggers: Annual Gallup State of the Global Workplace refresh; Major Mercer Global Talent Trends or Deloitte workforce trends refresh; WHO or NICE published guidance change on workplace mental health; New academic publication with material findings on burnout cost.
